British Touring Car Racing – 1976

At the end of the 1975 season the reign of the American "big bangers" came to an end.  The smaller engined British Saloon cars had been subordinate to their trans Atlantic cousins.  However homologation for these cars expired and the RAC took the opportunity to limit engine sizes for Group 1 machinery to 3000cc.  That effectively excluded any American muscle cars thereafter.  This situation remained until the introduction of the 2 litre Super Touring Class in 1989.

Gordon Spice and Holman Blackburn dispute some Thruxton tarmac.  In 1975/6 the Mark 1 Capri was still competitive with its newer (and heavier) brother.
